Golf Offseason: How to Keep Your Game Sharp

Golf Offseason: How to Keep Your Game Sharp

In the long winter months, we know how it feels to picture warm sunny days when you can once again step out on the golf course and play 18 holes with your buddies. While you count the days until your local course opens up again, there are many things you can do to make sure you’re in top shape when that time comes.

You can evaluate your current equipment and consider upgrading your clubs or golf grips, or take the time to assemble your own re-gripping station at home and start to regrip your golf grips yourself.

If you’ve already gotten a fresh SuperStroke putter grip and you’re ready to put it to the test, at-home training aids can really come in handy. We’re going over ways you can use our putting aids in your own home to improve or maintain your game.

Why use putting aids?

There are several reasons why you might want to use training aids, especially in the off season. To start, it’s a great way to get a feel for new golf grips. If you’ve taken the time to regrip your putter at home, you may be itching to feel that new Flatso or WristLock putter grip in your hands.

Another reason to give putting aids a try is to refine your golf grip style or try a new one before officially hitting the course. If you’ve never tried a claw grip before, it might be better to practice at home with a training aid than to try it for the first time on the course where the stakes are much higher.

Finally, as we’ve already mentioned, using training aids in the offseason keeps your game sharp. If you finished the last golf season with a perfect putt, you don’t want to lose that momentum. Take the time to continue to invest in your skills and improve for the spring.

Put your putter grips to the test with indoor training aids

When it comes to training aids there are a few things you want to keep in mind: what skills they improve, the price, and how much space they’re going to take up in your home. To help you decide which type of training aid fits best for you, we’ve included a list of aids to check out that meet each of these requirements. As you weigh your options, consider the skills you want to hone, the money you’re willing to spend and what type of space you’ll need to use it.

Aim board and laser pack

For golfers looking to squash errors in their putting alignment, the first place to look is at an aim board and an accompanying laser. The folding aim board displays three different distances (5, 10, and 15ft) and how the degrees of error look from those distances. When using the aim board and laser together, you get a better understanding of the degrees of error while the laser traces the aim path so you know the direction your putt should go.

Elevated String Line

If you and your new SuperStroke putter grip are able to get outside to practice, an elevated string line is an easily transportable aid suitable for outdoor use. Simply stick the ends into the ground and you have a string that acts as your putt start line or putter face alignment.

Start Line Trainer

Need a little help on your start line? The best place to look is a start line trainer, a nifty device that helps you learn how to improve your ability to hit your intended start line. With three different width settings acting as your ‘gates,’ you’re able to tell if the ball starts outside the proper degree of accuracy if it collides with the tee pegs. This shows you how to correct your alignment for improved accuracy.

Whether you’re looking to straighten your putts or correct your alignment, training aids are a convenient way to improve in the off season. With a SuperStroke grip in your hand and the right tools, you’ll be ready to tame the greens with confidence again in no time.
